A pound of fat only burns 2-5 calories a day, but a pound of muscle burns from 10-20 calories a day! So the more muscle you build through strength training, the more calories you will burn without any extra effort.

Need another reason? Strength training can even double as cardio! A recent study by the American Council on Exercise found that training with kettlebell exercises can burn up to 20 calories a minute. That’s like running a 6 minute mile! Talk about cardio!
If losing weight is your goal, you can’t skip strength training. It is absolutely necessary for success. Combine that with some cardio and a healthy diet and you’ll be on your way to a fit, healthy body!
